This episode really needs to be heard by all voice talent, new and experienced! The idea of rejection is something that people are too quick to accept.
In the regular business world, when a person is unemployed and job seeking, the notion of rejection is very strong, especially if the unemployment came as a result of being fired or downsized. A person's sense of value is already diminished and to perceive a lack of response as rejection only makes it worse.
Quite often, a job skills training class will prepare you for the task at hand. Keep getting those resumes out there. Network and self promote whenever possible. Your job IS job hunting.
The same principle applies in the entertainment industry. In Bob Bergen's performance at VOICE, he mentioned that he came to the realization that an actor's job is not acting... it's auditioning. "Audition, audition, audition, JOB, audition...", you get the picture.
Keep going, keep auditioning, keep self-promoting. Use all the tools at hand and never think that you are not talented. You just may not be the talent the client is looking for.

Thanks Joan and Rudy!
After awhile we start to tell ourselves that the "rejection" doesn't really bother us anymore, but perceiving it as rejection (versus simply not being selected) will chip away at our attitude eventually.
Fortunately we have resources like this to help us move on and keep growing and learning!
Thanks
Rob Ellis
