Great information, for the uninitiated. The pld 80-20 Rule applies. 20% of your customers will take up 80% of your time, cause 80% of your headaches, etc. Speaking as a former Credit Manager, I must add that Small Claims Court is not the end of the line. You must, then, take your judgement and enforce it by EXECUTING. For which you will need to go through another filing process, pay more fees, AND know about enough your client's assets so that the Sheriff can go and get what you are owed. A true deadbeat will laugh up his sleeve at the Small Claims Court threat, if he has any reason to think that you don't actually know what you're talking about. It's like telling the cop who just pulled you over that you "know your rights." Not the smartest move if, for example, you have no idea what the Fourth Amendment is about.
Posted by:As a former CCRA collections officer I agree. Most people freak out about a court judgment when in fact all it means is the court agrees you are owed something. You still have to collect. Case in point, Nicole Simpson & Goldman family's and OJ's debt.
